3 x 600kVA Diesel Generators for UK Hospital

Enrogen Delivers Comprehensive Power Solution for Northern Hospital

In 2021, Enrogen successfully designed, installed, and commissioned a turnkey power solution for a hospital in the North of England, consisting of 3 x 600kVA diesel generators, a switchboard, and a permanent loadbank. Key features of the project include:

  • Each generator was powered by MTU 12V1600G20F engines, coupled to Leroy Somer LSA49.3S4 alternators, and housed in acoustic enclosures rated at 70dBA at 1 meter for noise control.
  • The system was built with ComAp controls for set-to-set synchronisation, ensuring seamless n+1 redundancy.
  • A custom-built essential switchboard was installed within the plantroom alongside the generators. During the cable migration, a temporary switchboard was used to maintain hospital operations, minimizing shutdowns by performing work outside of normal hours.
  • The fuel system was engineered for 72 hours of continuous running, featuring Enrogen-built 10-hour underbase day tanks with a recirculating system for fuel polishing from the bulk tank.
  • An ASCO (Froment) permanent loadbank was provided, allowing the hospital to test generators individually or synchronised together.

This solution ensures the hospital remains resilient and operational, even in critical scenarios.
